The by-election was caused after the death of Councillor Alan Ham who had served the Brent area for many years.
Shirley Williams and local MP Tessa Munt are supporting Helen in her bid to become the next County Councillor for the Brent Area in Somerset.
Helen's strong commitment to local groups speak for themselves. Helen believes in serving local communities. She is on the Boards of the Octopus Children's Centre and her local Residents' Association. She's both a residents' advocate to the Council and the liaison link for her Community Hall. Helen also helps run computer access advice and residents' help sessions in her community.
Helen said "I care passionately about our rural communities and landscape and I will work with and support you to preserve Somerset's natural environment." She added "I fully understand the importance of renewable energy, but I do not believe it is necessary to destroy the natural beauty of the Somerset Levels to achieve this."
Helen has spent the majority of her working life within the financial and business sectors. If elected to serve you, she will fight to ensure that our services are preserved and delivered efficiently. Helen said "I believe many of the current reductions to our services are ill-considered and represent false economies. A good understanding of fiscal management is crucial in the current challenging economic environment. I will strive to bring common sense and financial acumen to County Hall."
