Tessa Munt, the local MP visited Mendip YMCA in Wells to hear about its work across the Mendip area tackling homelessness for those aged 16-25.
Tessa spent time with young people living at Spencer House in Wells. One resident commented "Tessa was not only down to earth but reminded us that one person can make a difference." Another added "I was sceptical about meeting her, however within a few minutes I realized Tessa was a fun but hard working individual. I enjoyed our conversation and was glad I attended."
Tessa also spoke to staff and took on board a variety of issues expressed which included:
• Concerns about lack of funding in the future for one to one support for vulnerable young people.
• The recent increase in referrals of young people under 25 to the YMCA which is expected to further rise this year.
• Housing benefit reform which threatens to reduce the amount of money vulnerable young people will be able to receive to find housing.
