Tessa Munt and Dan Climo on the postal round in Glastonbury on Christmas Eve
Prospective Liberal Democrat MP Tessa Munt has seen at first hand the hard work postmen and women do throughout the festive period in Glastonbury.
Tessa joined East Horrington postie, Dan Climo, at Glastonbury Delivery Office on Christmas Eve, helping to sort and load the post before accompanying Dan to deliver the last post before Christmas on his round.
The average number of items put in the post every day is 75 million, but as the trend towards online shopping increases, Royal Mail estimates that on some days leading up to Christmas, it handles 140 million items of post a day.
Each adult sends an average of 55 Christmas cards each year, and across the country, we sent 750 million Christmas cards last year - 17 for every man, woman and child in the UK, and enough to stretch around the world five times.
Tessa said: "It is eye-opening how many items of post are sent and delivered locally."
"Postmen and women work extremely hard and I really appreciate their efforts, particularly at this time of year."

"With the poor weather we had leading up to Christmas there was a bit of a backlog, so posties in rural areas have worked extra hard to get everything delivered in time for the big day."
